I’m sure you’re aware that solar outdoor lighting is the most beautiful available, with an ambient glow that no other type of lighting can match. I’m sure you’re also aware that solar outdoor lighting is the most cost-effective and easy-to-install lighting option. Almost everyone is aware of this! Despite the fact that most people are aware of the foregoing, many of them continue to make some very common mistakes. Here’s a rundown of what they are and how to avoid them.
Mistake #1. Buying too many solar lights at one time
The first mistake is purchasing too many solar lights at once. This is most likely the most common error. After all, you can never have too much of a good thing, can you? Many people admire the appearance of a yard or garden with an enchanting array of colourful solar lights that they’ve seen and admired somewhere. They immediately buy a large assortment of solar lights, accent lights, deck lights, pathway lights, and so on – and when they get them all in place (which only takes a few minutes), they discover that their yard falls short of their expectations. They haven’t planned ahead of time, and while their yard and garden look better than before, it isn’t quite what they had in mind. You’re better off treating each area of your yard as a separate entity and tackling it one at a time. When you do this, you only concentrate on one thing at a time, and you learn from your mistakes as you go. For example, once your front yard looks as you expected, move on to the driveway area, and so on. This method is more efficient and less expensive in the long run.
Mistake #2. Not buying enough solar lights to do the job
Mistake number two is not purchasing enough solar lights to complete the job. This is most likely the second most common error. Many people buy a few solar lights and stick them in the ground without much thought. It only costs a few dollars, takes a minute or two to install, and looks nice – so they stop there, far short of the full potential effect. Installing a row of solar accent lights to outline your driveway or walk will only cost a few dollars more and take a few minutes longer to install, but it will have a huge impact! Because you don’t have to install electrical wiring to light up your night, and you don’t have to pay large electrical bills (make that no electric bill!) to operate.
Mistake #3. Putting solar lights in only your front yard
This approach is appealing because it shows off your yard to the best advantage in the neighborhood and captures everyone’s attention. However, many people who use this method intend to extend their solar lighting to the rest of their yard or garden, but never get around to it – or, worse, never even consider it! That’s a shame, because you’re missing out on a lot of fun by not being able to use the rest of your yard and garden after dark. If you can’t see everything in an area, you’re less likely to use it. The same is true for your deck, porch, and water feature areas.
Mistake #4. Putting solar lights only in your garden
This is not a major issue because solar lighting provides the most enjoyment when it is placed in areas where you spend the most time. For example, if you install enough solar lights to get the full dramatic effect, you’ll use the pool more. The same is true for your deck and water feature area, not to mention that when these areas are attractively lit, they become much safer. You’re also missing out on the pleasure of seeing your front yard stand out from the rest of the neighbourhood and knowing that it’s the envy of everyone! When you see the elegant Victoria, you’ll feel a sense of pride every time you drive into your driveway.
Mistake #5. Just set them and forget them
This is a common human mistake, but it is easily corrected. Most people install their solar lighting and never move it again. What a squander! You might get lucky and put every light in the exact right place the first time, but don’t count on it! Chances are, with a little experimentation, you can improve things; try adding a few solar fence post solar lights to your landscape fence around your property for a dramatic look to your entire yard! Alternatively, you could add a solar shed light to your garden shed or the side of your garage. The possibilities are limitless, but you’ll never know unless you try. Solar lights can be relocated in a matter of minutes.
